When Missouri Western first began providing email to alumni and retirees:
- Email was not widely available: At that time, email was a relatively new and less common service.
- Most email services are now available at no cost to users and easy to create.
- Cyberattacks were less sophisticated and infrequent: Cyber threats were less advanced and occurred less frequently.
- In the current digital landscape, cyber threats are more advanced, pervasive, and directly targeting students and colleges/universities.
- Data storage was free and unlimited for educational institutions: Historically, educational institutions could store data without significant cost.
- Modern data storage solutions, such as those provided by Google and other tech companies, often come with associated fees because the demand has increased significantly.
