Murphy Hall houses our nursing and respiratory simulators, as well as the following programs:

Hearnes Center is where the Missouri Western library and bookstore are located. Hearnes is also home to our Center for Academic Support which provides one-on-one and small-group tutoring for most courses on campus.

Spratt Hall is the home of the Walter Cronkite Memorial, the University Gallery, and the Department of Communication, Advancement, the Missouri Western Foundation and the University Marketing and Communications Office are also located in Spratt Hall.

The Fulkerson Center is Missouri Western’s largest event space. The venue can seat up to 500 people and hosts numerous events for the university and for outside groups.

Blum Union is the center for student life on Missouri Western’s campus. It houses the Division of Student Affairs, including

  • The Griffon Esports Arena in Blum provides a comfortable space for students to hone their skills and compete with state-of-the-art gaming equipment.

Remington Hall houses classroom and laboratory spaces for Missouri Western’s science and math programs. The atrium between Remington and Agenstein Hall provides a welcome gathering place for students, and is home to Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Agenstein Hall holds classrooms, lab spaces and faculty offices for the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

Wilson Hall is home to the Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, the Missouri Western Law Enforcement Academy, the Department of Engineering Technology, Department of Military Science and the Head Start Preschool, which provides a learning laboratory for our early childhood education students.

Potter Hall is the center for the fine arts programs at Missouri Western. Potter Hall houses the Drew Brown Art Gallery and the following programs:

Houlne Center for Convergent Technology houses applied-learning labs that mirror the equipment and facilities used in today’s – and tomorrow’s – industrial maintenance, manufacturing technology, and construction technology employers’ factory floors. Houlne Center for Convergent Technology will also be home to innovative IT resources, robotics, cybersecurity, and more.

When walking under the Glenn E Marion Memorial clock tower, students always walk around the seal. Legend has it that if a student steps on the seal, they won’t graduate. After commencement, new graduates walk under the clock tower, and over the seal, their first steps as official college graduates.

Housing & Residence Life

In the Commons Building, you will find spaces like Res Life staff offices, the front desk, the Residence Hall Association office, Max’s Mart C-Store & Grill and a computer lab.

Beshears is a co-ed, suite-style building that houses sophomore through senior students.

Juda is a co-ed, suite-style building that houses sophomore through senior students.

Leaverton is a co-ed, suite-style building that houses sophomore through senior students.

Vaselakos is a co-ed, suite-style building that houses sophomore through senior students.

Scanlon Hall is a co-ed building that houses all first-year students. Scanlon is also home to Max Communities and our Freshman honors students.

Vartabedian Hall, formerly known as Griffon Hall, is a co-ed, apartment-style building that houses sophomore through senior students.

Athletics & Recreational Facilities

Griffon football, women’s soccer and lacrosse call Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium home. These athletes play and celebrate with their fellow Griffons and ring the bell with each victory! 

Missouri Western State University and the community of St. Joseph are proud to host Chiefs Training Camp presented by Mosaic Life Care.

Located at the West End of Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium, this Pavilion gains its name from Bill Snyder–Kansas State Head Football Coach, a Saint Joseph, Missouri Native and Missouri Western alumnus.

The Griffon Indoor Sports Complex serves Griffon athletics teams and is the summer training camp home of the Kansas City Chiefs. The facility features a full 100-yard turf indoor field, a state-of-the-art locker room for the Griffon football team, which can accommodate up to 120 players, as well as coaches’ offices, a dedicated weight training facility for Griffon student-athletes, meeting rooms, a 120-seat theater, equipment room and athletic training room. The facilities available to Griffon student-athletes rival those of any collegiate or professional sports organization.

Located within the Looney Complex, this space is the site of home basketball and volleyball games as well as a recreation gym, the Thomas Eagleton Indoor Pool, the health, sports & exercise science department and some athletic department offices. Commencement ceremonies are held in the arena every May and December.

The Baker Family Fitness Center is MWSU’s go-to space for all students, employees, and other members to achieve fitness success. This judgement-free zone hosts an array of equipment available to its members. Including – state-of-the-art cardio machines, Olympic-quality free weight racks, cable machines, and a studio space for yoga and stretching.

The Spring Sports Complex is the home to the Missouri Western baseball and softball teams. The Spring Sports Complex is also used for events and intramural activities.

Campus Facilities & Services

The Missouri Western Physical Plant provides a safe, clean, healthy environment conducive to providing educational programs at Missouri Western State University, maintaining the highest standards in quality of skills and services through the integration of human resources, training, education, equipment, technology, and management systems.

The goal of the Science and Technology Incubator is to provide facilities and assistance for start-up companies. The incubator houses a laboratory, conference rooms, operation offices and tenant spaces. Its flexible floor plan can accommodate 12-15 firms of a few persons each, or a few large firms requiring larger spaces.

The Northwest Regional Office of the Missouri Department of Conservation is located on Missouri Western’s campus, providing a great resource for our wildlife conservation management program. The office is surrounded by the Otoe Creek Nature Area, approximately 200 acres of wooded natural habitat with nature trails and a small outdoor amphitheater.

A 40-acre prairie restoration project on the eastern edge of Missouri Western’s campus, the John Rushin Teaching and Research Prairie provides a living laboratory for our biology students. The campus also maintains nine man-made ponds of varying sizes, depths and watershed areas to provide a diverse collection of aquatic wildlife.

Parking

A permit is required for all vehicles parked on campus unless posted otherwise. Permits may be obtained in the University Police Office in Blum Union.

Looney Complex Service Drive – Parking is restricted to disable-accessible parking, marked service vehicle spaces, and marked 30-minute parking spaces.

Potter Hall Service Drives – Parking is restricted to disabled-accessible parking and marked 30-minute parking spaces.

Remington/Agenstein Service Drive – Parking is restricted to disabled-accessible parking, marked 30-minute parking spaces and marked service vehicle parking.

Wilson Hall Service Drives – Parking is restricted to disabled-accessible parking, marked service vehicle parking, and the Y Day Care child drop-off/pick-up spaces.

Accessible Parking is available in all campus lots and is enforced at all times in accordance with state and local laws. Temporary Disabled Accessible parking accommodations may be made for up to one week by contacting the University Police Department at 816-271-4438.
