A 2018 alumna, Madison Romjue, is a special education teacher in New Bern, North Carolina. Madison and her class had just finished approximately one month of school when Hurricane Florence struck. New Bern is right on the coast and was featured in weather channel photos because of the town’s extensive flooding.
Madison said her school had some water damage from the rain, but no flooding, but one school in the district had 90% of the students lose their home/apartment and another school had 50% lose their home/apartment.
She reached out to Missouri Western’s Department of Education and asked them if they would hold a school supply drive for her school district. Below is the list of needed supplies. The department is collecting items and will also accept monetary donations until this Wednesday, Oct. 17.
