MWSU requires general studies to submit an annual assessment plan outlining their assessment practices for the assessment cycle.  Assessment of student learning begins with the Core 42 curriculum of student learning outcomes describing the basic competencies of Valuing, Managing Information, Communicating, and Higher-Order Thinking. 

The General Studies Committee (GSC) represents the faculty in assessing student learning in general studies, assisting departments with Core 42 applications, and monitoring adherence to MW general studies philosophy.

The GSC works with General Education instructors to mapped Core 42 curriculum to Missouri Western courses.

Outcomes are mapped to general education course assignments with rubrics. Student work is submitted to the GSC by May.

The GSC selects faculty to evaluate student work using a rubric throughout the summer.

The GSC submits a completed report to the Office of Assessment and Accreditation (OAA) by October 15 each year.  The OAA shares results in an annual assessment report.
