MWSU requires the General Studies Assessment Committee (reporting to Academic Affairs) to submit an annual assessment plan and an Assessment and Improvement Report of student learning achievement.
The General Studies Assessment Committee (GSAC) represents the faculty in assessing student learning in general studies, assisting departments with Core 42 applications, and monitoring adherence to Missouri Western’s General Studies philosophy.
GSAC works with General Studies faculty to map MWSU courses to General Studies’ curriculum.
Based on course content, General Studies courses are identified to conduct assessment on specific SLOs. Working with GSAC to ensure alignment, instructors select an existing student assignment and collect student work we call artifacts.
The GSC selects faculty to evaluate student work using a rubric throughout the summer.
The GSC submits a completed report to the Office of Assessment and Accreditation (OAA) by October 15 each year. The OAA shares results in an annual assessment report.
