GRIFFONS CREATE
Students in Missouri Western’s Cinematic Arts program will receive unique production-focused training that centers on four major disciplines within the Cinematic Arts degree; Narrative filmmaking, Documentary filmmaking, Commercial production and Industrial/Experimental production.
Training in these disciplines will competently prepare our students for the ever-changing professional landscape of modern media production.
Students will easily navigate their way through a program designed to remove the common barriers of prerequisites, by first building on core classes in their freshman year, then moving into focused training in the four disciplines and culminating in a final professional portfolio in their senior year that highlights their outstanding participation in our Cinematic Arts degree; making them “Industry” ready.
While at Missouri Western students will have several opportunities to gain additional hands-on experience in our unique “Applied learning” program “Griffon Production House” that currently features three different programs that students can get involved in:
-
GPH Live! focuses on large scale multi-cam recordings of current events happening both on campus and off campus in our community at large. For example, everything from the MWSU Jazz ensemble concert to plays and musicals that are premiering at high schools in the community.
-
Old Saint Jo focuses primarily on documenting the rich history of St. Joseph, Missouri via a unique approach of blending content from the past, present and future through a smaller format multi-cam approach.
-
Griffon University focuses on recording various research topics from our amazing faculty throughout campus. Material is presented in a unique way via candid interviews with the faculty that also incorporates animations and motion graphics from our animation and game design students.
Students who actively participate in these “Griffon Production House” programs will have the opportunity to receive scholarships in the form of tuition waivers.
Careers that are possible to obtain through the program might include (but are not limited to):
- Writing
- Directing
- Producing
- Editing
- Cinematography
- Production Sound
- Creative Producing
- Gripping and Gaffing
- Digital Information Technologist (DIT)
