“If you get a chance to intern in a position directly related to your future career path – take the chance!”
Major: Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations; Philosophy; Religion minor
Hometown: St. Joseph, Missouri
As Aubry Carpenter ’14 was preparing to start her last year at Missouri Western, a friend who was graduating suggested Aubry apply for the internship position she was vacating. At first, Aubry was hesitant to apply for the position in the University’s Public Relations and Marketing Office, but now believes it was the best internship choice she could have made. Aubry interned in the department through the summer and her final semester, working on newsletters, mailings and of course, other duties as assigned.
“The connections I made and skills I learned prepared me for my future career more than I realized at the time,” Aubry said. Aubry now works in the same department full time. Aubry learned how to collaborate in a team environment, work toward a hard deadline and gained the confidence she needed to succeed in her future career while completing this internship.
“If you get a chance to intern in a position directly related to your future career path – take the chance! I would never be where I am today if I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone and into this life-changing internship,” advises Aubry.
