I made sure I did not feed the crocodiles, but I did agree to pet a couple for a photo op. While the croc I am petting looks mean, he’s just trying to stay cool. The other croc you see waddled by me to head for the pool to get cool. This Kachikally Crocodile Pool supports about 80 crocodiles. They feed them fish twice a week so they do not have to eat the tourists. People still come here to be healed or for help to become pregnant. This tradition began over 500 years ago. Those who succeed in becoming pregnant often name their children after the pool. Kachikally is still purportedly a common name in the region.
