Frequently Asked Questions
Dual credit courses are taught in the high school by qualified high school faculty. In turn, dual enrollment can still be taught in the high school, but can also be taught online or on-campus. Additionally, the instructor for dual enrollment courses are Missouri Western faculty. Both dual credit and dual enrollment provide both high school and college credit at the same time.
ECA courses provide students the chance to get ahead on their college courses. Whether taking general education (Core 42) courses or preparing to explore different majors and careers, there are multiple options to choose from. With this, students get a chance to get experience and opportunities to build their academic skills and confidence with discounted courses while still in high school.
Though Advanced Placement (AP) courses are similar to dual credit courses, they are stingier. At the end of taking AP courses, students must pass a national exam at a set, required score. If they do not, college credit is not awarded. However, dual credit courses provide students the same opportunity and will award college credit at the completion of the course without the need for a culminating exam.
Students are not allowed to take ECA courses without the approval of both their respective school counselor and their parent/guardian. Both are also involved throughout the process in respects to FERPA.
Students are freely able to drop or withdraw from courses at any time. During the registration process, students can contact the ECA office to make changes without penalty. Otherwise, all drops, withdrawals, and fees coincide with our campus dates (listed on our website). If a student does drop a course, it is their responsibility to relay that information to their respective school district and make the appropriate changes as needed.
Textbooks are provided for our dual credit courses and for various other courses. When students register, costs will be attached to each selection for reference. Otherwise, all ECA students have the same opportunities, rights, and resources available to them once they are enrolled in courses. From the Center for Academic Support and Library usage to other auxiliary services, students can use campus as they desire.
Yes, all ECA students have access to our traditional, post-secondary course offerings. Coordination with your respective school district is necessary for approval. Additionally, students are freely able to take summer courses (subject to availability).
That’s okay! Students are free to enroll in ECA classes as an individual student. However, please contact our office so we are able to coordinate with your school counselor to better share information and necessary documents as needed.
