First Track and Field All-American

Phil Thompson

A solid first-ever indoor track and field season for Missouri Western ended with an outstanding accomplishment. Senior Phil Thompson finished third in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships to give the program its first-ever All-American in year one.

Thompson bested the top-three finishers from the 2017 national championships, finishing third despite being seeded 14^th out of 16 national qualifiers. His accomplishment was one of many for the first-year program. Other season highlights included the Fred Beile Classic on Feb. 3 where Griffons won seven events. On the season, Missouri Western posted 11 event championships, including six by freshmen.
