Missouri Western State University will host the Discover Science! Summer Day Camp for students entering their junior and senior years in high school June 15-19 in Remington Hall on the Missouri Western campus. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The camp, funded by a grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc., will offer students with career goals in life sciences an opportunity to learn and experience advanced topics in biochemistry and molecular biology in a creative, hands-on laboratory setting.
A planned “behind the scenes” tour of Boehringer’s facility in St. Joseph will allow students to experience the large-scale application of the techniques they learn during the program and prepare them to consider some of the challenging and rewarding career opportunities available in biotechnology and industrial life sciences.
Enrollment is limited to 24 students. Participants will be selected competitively based on their application and a recommendation from a science teacher. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. Thursday, June 11.
The registration fee is $100. The fee may be waived in a limited number of cases based on family income.
