The scene is the Kit Kat Klub, a night club in Berlin, as the 1920s are drawing to a close. The Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience to the show and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the Cabaret. With a book by Joe Masteroff based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, “Cabaret” was produced on Broadway in 1966. The show won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, was adapted for film in 1972 and has been revived several times on Broadway and in London.
Missouri Western’s production is directed by local actress and director Carol Myers. “Cabaret” is presented by the Department of Cinema, Theatre and Dance and the School of Fine Arts.
