Madison Lantz of Missouri Western State University was named Top Speaker in a novice parliamentary debate tournament at Webster University in St. Louis.
Lantz, a freshman legal studies major from Holt, Missouri, and teammate Ashley Howery, freshman biology major from St. Joseph, placed sixth overall at the Study Break Debate Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5. The novice tournament is for college debaters in their first year of competition.
The tournament in St. Louis concluded the fall portion of the season for the Missouri Western speech and debate team. In January, Missouri Western’s team of Chris Miles and Mike Smith will travel to the University of Utah to compete in a national circuit tournament. Miles and Smith, both juniors from Independence, Missouri, are currently ranked 24th nationally.
