A history student from Missouri Western State University will give a presentation about St. Joseph native Ruth Warrick at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center, 100 South 10th Street. The presentation is free and open to the public, with light refreshments served. The presentation is sponsored by the St. Joseph Public Library.
Ashley Coats, a junior from St. Joseph, helped create an exhibit titled “Fame and Politics: The Life of Ruth Warrick” while working as an intern at the St. Joseph Museum this spring. Warrick, best known for her role in “Citizen Kane” and as Phoebe Tyler on “All My Children,” used her fame to influence politics, campaigning for presidents from the time of Kennedy through Clinton.
Coats assisted in all aspects of the exhibit’s creation, from writing grants and doing background research to curating artifacts and designing the exhibit space. The exhibit will open with a celebration of Warrick’s 100th birthday from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion, 1100 Charles Street.
