Dr. Nathanael May, associate professor of music at Missouri Western State University, has been interviewed by “I Care If You Listen,” a major international source for the promotion of contemporary classical music. The interview is about the soundSCAPE festival founded by Dr. May.
soundSCAPE (Sound, Composition and Performance Exchange) will celebrate its 13th season this summer in the Italian village of Maccagno.
“The essence of the festival is of process and collaboration — soundSCAPE has been the starting point for new music initiatives that have flourished far beyond the festival, all around the globe,” Dr. May told “I Care If You Listen.” “We actively track and promote festival commissions and highlight career development of over 400 alumni, who represent a growing base of musicians at the vanguard of new music creation.”
Missouri Western students benefit from Dr. May’s role as the festival artistic director. Each summer, students from the music program have an opportunity to fulfill their internship requirement for music technology. In addition, Missouri Western art students have won the festival’s poster design contest.
