The 2017-2018 theatre season at Missouri Western State University continues with “Short and Sweet,” a production of six one-act plays and five short films Nov. 30 to Dec. 3 in the Kemper Recital Hall inside Spratt Hall. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.

Two of the plays will be directed by students. Kara McGhee will direct the evening’s first play, “Clara and the Gambler.” Abby Sexton will direct “Hold for Three.” Two of the plays, “The Bluegrass of God” and “Sure Thing,” will be directed by Tee Quillin, associate professor of theatre. Jeff Stover, chair of the Department of Theatre, Cinema and Dance, will also direct two plays: “Doll Cargo” and “Brights!”

Between the live plays, student-directed short films will be presented:

  • “7 Minutes,” by Charles Skyles
  • “Goodnight Kiss,” by Beau Hill
  • “Music Video,” by Gabriel Barton
  • “Two Rails from Hell,” by Russell Gummelt
  • “Clasp on Love,” by Andy Coutts

Gummelt’s film, “Two Rails from Hell,” was winner of Best Film at the Fault-Line Film Festival at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau.
