Missouri Western State University and the YWCA of St. Joseph are co-hosting the “What Were You Wearing?” Survivor Art Installation in the Hoff Conference Room, Blum Student Union room 28, April 3-6. An opening reception will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 with remarks and light refreshments until 2:30 p.m. The display will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. April 3, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 4, 5 and 6. It is free and open to the public.
Outfits featured in the installation have been recreated from the stories of student survivors of sexual assault. The clothing has been donated by the YWCA.
“What Were You Wearing?” originated at the University of Arkansas in 2013. It was created by Jen Brockman and Dr. Mary Wyandt-Hiebert, who were inspired by Dr. Mary Simmerling’s poem “What I Was Wearing”. It has been displayed on multiple campuses across the Midwest since then, gaining widespread attention last year at the University of Kansas.
