April 16, 2019—The percussion studies program in the Department of Music at Missouri Western State University will hold a Percussion Solo and Ensemble Festival on April 23 in the Fulkerson Center. The festival will conclude with a performance by the MWSU Percussion Ensemble featuring guest artist Ivan Trevino at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
The Festival will begin at noon, with high school soloists and ensembles performing in the Fulkerson Center throughout the day. All performances are open to the public.
Ivan Trevino is a composer and percussionist who has more than 70 compositions and songs to his name, including multiple wins of the Percussive Arts Society’s International Composition Contest. He is well-known for his work as a drummer and composer with Break of Reality, an international touring cello and percussion quartet. As a founding member of the ensemble, Trevino has headlined concerts across North America, South America and Asia and was named a music ambassador by the U.S. State Department during the Obama administration. His work with Break of Reality has been heard on PBS, Huffington Post, Yahoo Music and is on regular rotation on NPR.
