Six artists and organizations, including several massively influential people at Missouri Western State University, were honored at the annual Mayor’s Award for the Arts.
From volunteers to entertainers and educators, the locally-based groups and residents were recognized Thursday at Fairview Golf Course for their contributions to the local arts scene.
Included in those honored were former Missouri Western president Drs. Bob and Laurel Vartabedian, as well as Drew Brown, a supporter of the arts in the area who donated $1 million to support a visual annex at Potter Hall at the college.
“I can’t even express how much this community means to us, “ Dr. Laurel Vartabedian said.
