Aug. 19, 2019—More than 800 freshmen entering Missouri Western State University this fall will participate in Griffon Edge, a program designed to help them acclimate to college life and make connections with fellow students and the St. Joseph Community. The Office of Admissions invites current students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and their families to join Missouri Western in welcoming the Class of 2023 by participating in several Griffon Edge events. The following activities are free and open to the public.
Griff Up Downtown, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22
Come to Coleman Hawkins Park in Felix Street Square for games, face painting and words of welcome from President Matt Wilson and St. Joseph Mayor Bill McMurray ’70. Sixteen local businesses will participate in a special Griffon scavenger hunt and offering discounts and specials to Griffons. This family-friendly event is sponsored by the Craig School of Business and Technology. Participating businesses include: Felix Street Gourmet, 1785 Restaurant, Manic Snail/Wiry Orphan, Boudreaux’s, Nesting Goods, The Lucky Tiger, QZ Studio & Gallery, Corby Place Senior Living, Ground Round, Downtown Frames, Jake’s Steakhouse, Cafe Pony Espresso, Body Basics Massage and Facials, Mokaska Coffee, Warrior Nutrition and Eclipz Popcorn.
Griff Flix, 9-11:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23
The new live-action version of “Aladdin” will be shown on the big screen at Craig Field in Spratt Memorial Stadium.
Griffon Family Tailgate, 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25
Get in the Griffon spirit with the Griffon Family Tailgate in Lot H in front of Baker Family Fitness Center. The event includes free food, inflatables, music, face painting and more! Guests can get to know incoming freshmen before walking over to Spratt Stadium for the New Student Convocation.
New Student Convocation, 7:30-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25
After the tailgate, walk over to Spratt Stadium for the official academic welcome and the start of the Class of 2023’s academic success.
Class of 2023 Candlelight Ceremony, 8-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25
Following New Student Convocation, walk the lighted path to the clock tower to join the Class of 2023 in singing the alma mater for the official end to Griffon Edge 2019.
