Nov. 22, 2019—The Missouri Western State University Library and the Department of Art present “IRL: An Exhibition” in the Hearnes Center through February 2020. An opening reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Students in the Painting and Beginning Drawing II courses created artwork based on the theme “IRL,” an abbreviation for the phrase “in real life,” considering the line between facts and fiction as it is relevant to our society right now. Students attended workshops at the library on topics such as “Sorting through Facts and Fiction” and “Visual Literacy.” Back in the studio, students considered and questioned their perception of what is real and what is fake, and created in response to that investigation. Through the use of visual imageries, students learned about visual context and how images alter or reinforce facts or one’s belief.
Students participating in this exhibition include:
Painting Students: Abbi Brown, Allison Brown, Lindsey Davis, Sammy Duong, Jonathan Greene, Austin Holmes, Adam Le, Molly Nashan, Chloe Oyler, Skyler Peter, Grant Poage, James Simon, Calvin Tabor, Matti Thomas, Madison McKinley, Alexis Carr, Joseph Christian Banez, Shelley Black and Grace Thomas.
