April 18, 2023–The jazz program at Missouri Western State University will celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with the annual Spring Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20 in the Potter Hall Theater. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the MWSU Jazz Ensemble, the St. Joseph Christian School Jazz Band and guest artists the KC Reeds and Rhythm.
The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Bob Long, will feature classic literature of the great big bands along with newer contemporary literature recently released by composers/arrangers such as Patty Darling and Jamey Simmons.
The Kansas City Reeds and Rhythm group began within the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra (KCJO) back in 2017. The ensemble is made up of members of the KCJO saxophone and rhythm sections, including David Chael and Bob Long on alto saxophones, Doug Talley and Brad Gregory on tenor saxophones, Mark Cohick on the baritone saxophone, Charles Williams on piano, James Albright on Bass and John Kizilarmut on drums.
