April 25, 2023–A Missouri Western State University art student’s work is part of the seventh annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph. Jurors selected two pieces by Kylee Derr, a sophomore graphic design and digital animation major from St. Joseph.
The works are a 9” x 12” gouache painting on Bristol and a 10.5” x 14” ink and alcohol marker illustration, both completed as class projects. The gouache painting, titled “Nightfall,” features a moth in the foreground of the sky under a full moon. It was completed for a personal flag assignment. The ink and alcohol marker illustration, “Lament,” features a lamenting figure incorporated into a repeating pattern, completed for a tessellation project.
The Undergraduate Juried Exhibition is open to students enrolled in undergraduate programs in the United States during the 2022-2023 academic year. This year’s 31 exhibiting artists selected for participation come from nine universities in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. This juried exhibition will feature a Best of Show award after all submissions have been received and reviewed by a panel of judges.
The exhibition is on display at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art through Sunday, June 4. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $7 for students.
