Aug. 31, 2023–Dr. Lori McCune, associate professor of mathematics at Missouri Western State University, received a Meritorious Service Award from the Mathematical Association of America. The award is based on service to the association at the national or section level.
Dr. McCune was one of just five members honored nationally, and the only one in Missouri. She served as section chair in 2015-2016, organizing the 2016 Missouri Section Meeting at Missouri Western. She served as liaison coordinator from 2019 to 2021, and was elected section chair again in April 2021, a position she still holds.
Dr. McCune has been at Missouri Western since 2012. Her research interests include recreational mathematics and the mathematics of voting. She regularly presents talks at section meetings.
Dr. McCune earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Akron, and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
