St. Joseph Fire Department firefighters participated in the first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in 2022.
Sept. 8, 2023–The Center for Military & Veteran Services and the Student Government Association at Missouri Western State University will host the second annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at 8:46 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11 at Spratt Memorial Stadium.
The stair climb honors the first responders who gave their lives trying to save others on that fateful day. Participants will have the opportunity to climb 110 flights of stairs, try a shorter feat with a simulator or simply come out to support those who are participating.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring water and take breaks as needed.
Check in begins at 8 a.m. The climb will start at 8:46 a.m., when the first plane hit the World Trade Center, starting the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
This event is free and open to the public.
