Randy Davis, a Broadway performer serving as choreographer for this year’s season of Western Playhouse at Missouri Western State University, will conduct a master class, “Dance Your Way to Broadway,” on Sunday, June 15 in St. Joseph. The cost is $50, and advance registration is requested by calling 816-271-4100. The master class is presented by a partnership between the Western Playhouse and McCoy Rigby Entertainment of Yorba Linda, Calif.
“As a dedicated educator and dance instructor, my mission is to foster and nurture young artists, to help develop their skills and share over three decades of national and international musical theater experience,” Davis said.
The master class provides the opportunity to learn from an experienced Broadway dance artist in a challenging, inspiring environment. It includes a screening of the documentary “The Dancer’s Chronicles,” followed by a question-and-answer session. Intermediate and advanced are invited to learn original Broadway choreography from a number of shows.
Davis has appeared in several Broadway shows and national tours, including the hit revival of “Guys & Dolls” with Peter Gallagher, Faith Prince and Nathan Lane. He continued from there with runs in “Cats” and “Peter Pan” and assisted with the original Broadway production of “All Shook Up.” He was also one of the select actors that appeared at the famed Apollo Theatre in George C. Wolfe’s “Harlem Song” and has performed twice at the White House.
In addition to choreographing both Western Playhouse shows, “The Music Man” June 20-28 and “Mother Divine,” July 11-19, Davis will perform in “Mother Divine.” Davis choreographed “Mother Divine” when it was produced as one of ten official selections of The Next Link Project of the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
Having worked throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, Randy’s innovative voice in the ever expanding field of performance creates beautiful bodies in motion while making fierce and soulful statements about the world inside and out of a performer’s perspective. His master class is designed to help to ensure that attendees are truly representing to their full potential when auditioning, fully utilizing their talents and strength in a carefully crafted marketing presentation.About Western Playhouse: Western Playhouse is a non-profit theatre whose purpose is to enhance the local and regional arts scene, engage the community with family-friendly events, and empower young theatre artists by providing them with professional applied-learning opportunities while providing an exceptional theatrical experience.
