Scholar and theologian Rev. Dr. Shawnthea Monroe-Mueller will speak at Missouri Western State University March 20 in honor of Women’s History Month. Rev. Dr. Monroe-Mueller will present a keynote address titled “Women in Relationships” at 4 p.m. in the Forrest Hoff Conference Rooms, Blum Union 218-219. Admission is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the center for multicultural education; the department of economics, political science and sociology; and gender and power studies.

Rev. Dr. Monroe-Mueller graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1995 and received her Doctorate of Ministry in preaching from the Chicago Theological Seminary in 2007. She has been preaching for the past 13 years and is currently the senior minister at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Rev. Dr. Monroe-Mueller also serves on the board of the Louisville Institute, and on the board of trustees for the Deaconess Community Foundation. As a member of the American Academy of Religion, she has taught courses in preaching, contemporary culture and theology and grant writing for non-profit organizations. In 2005, Rev. Dr. Monroe-Mueller received the Fargo Human Relations Award for her lifetime of service to others for her stance on peace and social justice.

Rev. Dr. Monroe-Mueller has written two books. Her first book, “Not-so-Desperate: Fantasy, Fact, and Faith on Wisteria Lane” (2006) is based on Christian theology and is a reflection of the television show “Desperate Housewives.” Her second book, “Living Christianity: A Pastoral Theology for Today” (2009) discusses five Christian doctrines: creation, Christology, sin, church, and heaven.
