Dr. James Carviou and Dr. Jennifer Jackson, associate professors in the Department of Communication, wrote a book chapter in the new book “Rhetoric of Masculinity: Male Body Image, Media, and Gender Role Stress/Conflict.” Their chapter, “A Critical Exploration of Pandemic Protection as a Threat to Masculinity: Facemask Usage and Gender,” explores the gender divide that exists surrounding the intentions and actual use of face coverings, looking specifically at male gender behaviors associated with wearing or not wearing face coverings and how opinion leaders’ influence through the use of Twitter impacted these behaviors.
