We have made it to the halfway point in the semester. Fall break is fast approaching and winter break will be here before you know it. With that being the case, the Missouri Western Counseling Center would like to remind you that counseling at Missouri Western is a 100% free and confidential service provided to current Missouri Western students. Professional counselors are available to help students work through a variety of personal issues that they may be facing. Services commonly address stress, anxiety, depression, grief, anger, relationships, sexual assault, self-esteem, time management, cultural issues, adjusting to life in the U.S., study skills, family concerns, grades and homesickness. The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of Eder Hall, room 203, and is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Counseling sessions remain an available resource between semesters as well. If the university is open, counselors are here to help. To learn more about the Counseling Center or to make an appointment, please have your student go to griff.vn/counseling.
The staff of the Counseling Center would like to share that we are now offering tobacco cessation sessions in addition to our regular counseling sessions. Several counselors have taken part in training to provide tobacco cessation appointments to our students. Students taking part in sessions will work with a counselor to create and maintain a plan to quit. They will also be provided with nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patches, and/or lozenges) to help them succeed in the long term. Training to conduct these sessions in addition to nicotine replacement therapy was provided by Partners in Prevention (PIP), Missouri’s higher education substance misuse consortium dedicated to creating healthy and safe college campuses. The coalition is comprised of 24 public and private college and university campuses across the state. To learn more about PIP, please go to griff.vn/PIP.
The Missouri Western Counseling Center is looking forward to helping our students with a successful end to the semester. We encourage students to reach out if they have problems and want them to know that they’re not alone and we’re here to help!
