The NCAA and MIAA have recognized Griffon Athletics’ efforts in the community with an NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.
The award honors institutions in each conference for community engagement efforts that exemplify excellence in any of the areas covered by the six attributes of Division II – learning, service, balance, passion, sportsmanship and resourcefulness. Missouri Western received the award for a bone marrow drive organized by the Griffon volleyball team this past fall.
The #KennedysKrew event took place on Nov. 10 as the team hosted bone marrow donor registrations on campus in support of 3-year-old Kennedy Holcumbrink’s battle with Lukemia. Holcumbrink’s parents were both student athletes at Missouri Western. The team also sold t-shirts during the event with all proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City, Missouri.
