On Saturday, Oct. 20 members of the MWSU Geography Club, with the help of volunteers from Lowe’s of St. Joseph, kicked off their Playground Map Project by painting a giant US map on the playground at Hosea Elementary School. Donations of supplies for the project were provided by MWSU Student Government Association, Lowe’s of St. Joseph, and donations gathered at Geography Club’s Trivia Bowl. Through the painting of maps on playgrounds across St. Joseph and the surrounding area, Geography Club hopes to engage students in learning about geography early and often and help them realize the importance of it in their everyday lives. Anyone interested in learning more about the Playground Map Project or having a map painted on their playground should contact Dr. Dawn Drake, advisor for the MWSU Geography Club at (816) 271-4161.
