Missouri Western Biology Assistant Professor, Dr. Tilottama Roy, has always encouraged and led her research students to present their work at different national and international conferences since she became a proud Griffon in the fall of 2017.
Over the past few years, her research students have presented at prestigious conferences like the Botany meetings, Evolution Meetings, and Missouri Academy of Science. This year, the initial plan was to present at the Evolution meetings in Cleveland, OH and the Botany conference, in Anchorage Alaska. However, the in person-meetings got cancelled for both due to Covid19, and the all society Botany meetings became virtual, and were held on an online platform from July 27th-July 31st.
So, Dr. Roy’s students, biology majors Shawn Boss and Esther Par, presented their work through virtual posters, on the endangered “False Foxgloves” plants and the “Lamioid Mint” plants, respectively, and Dr. Roy herself did a talk. Shawn also did an audio introduction for his poster, which was praised very highly by other conference attendees and participants from all across the globe. His Twitter feed on his audio was retweeted by the Botanical Society of America, and received 1.7k views within the first 15 hours. The Roy lab looks forward to many more such accolades coming their way in the future.
