The Department of Housing and Residence Life is excited for students to return to campus. First, however, from all of us in the department, we thank you for the flexibility you and your students showed during our move-out in March. Over the past five months our department has been revamping every single process and procedure to ensure a safe return to operations this fall without compromising the learning opportunities that come with living in the residence halls.

Move-in this year will take place August 11 and 12 for new students and August 13-16 for returning students. Move-in is always a hectic time that involves a large number of people. To provide the safest move-in possible, we have devised a drive-thru check-in process for our students. But first, all students must have a move-in appointment. If your student has not already done so, please sign-up for an appointment on our move-in website at http://griff.vn/movein. For everyone’s safety, university staff will not be able to help move belongings, everyone must wear masks, and students are limited to two (2) additional individuals to help with move-in.

When you arrive on campus, you will drive-thru our check-in process in front of the Fulkerson

Center. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Temperatures will be taken,
  • COVID-19 screening questions will be asked,
  • Confirmation that student immunization records have been given to Esry Health Center,
  • (students will not be allowed to move-in without immunization records on file), and
  • Griffon branded masks distributed

Once the check-in paperwork is completed and keys are given out, students will be directed to their hall to unload items and move into their room. Inside each building, Resident Assistants (RAs) and Griffon Greeters will be around to answer questions and help everyone maintain social distancing. It is strongly recommended students bring their own dollies/carts to help move personal items. Housing & Residence Life will not be providing dollies or move-in carts this year because we cannot guarantee their sanitization.

After move-in special events will occur throughout the week and we highly encourage students to attend every single one. It might be a little uncomfortable at first, but by doing so students are setting themselves up for success. Students also will have an opportunity to meet their RAs and other floor mates during a floor meeting, conducted over Zoom, on August 12. After Griffon Edge, RAs will host another floor meeting to help answer any final questions residents may have before classes begin on August 17.

Finally, we recommend that every student contact their roommates and suitemates, via the My Housing Information portal on Goldlink, before move-in. This is an opportunity to introduce yourselves, discuss what to bring, and, most importantly this year, talk with each other about any COVID concerns and how everyone will help maintain a clean and safe environment.

Living on campus is an exciting and sometimes challenging part of the collegiate experience. The Department of Housing and Residence Life has taken great care to ensure we maintain a safe, positive, healthy, and educational environment. We hope students enjoy living on campus as much as we enjoy providing the opportunities and cannot wait for everyone to return.
