The Department of Chemistry will kick off its Summer 2021 Program of Research Teaching and Applied Learning (PORTAL) activities on June 1. Student-faculty research teams will engage in a variety of projects including:

  • Development of Analytical Methods for the Analysis of Hemp and CBD
  • Determination of Ca and Mg in Grape Leaves Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy
  • Development of Green Chemistry Experiments For Use in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory
  • Investigating the Chemical Interactions Dictating Thermal Protection in Bacteria
  • Acetylation of Pentoses for Conformational Studies via Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
  • Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Computational Models in Drug Discovery and Biomedical Research
  • Development of the Fourier Grid Hamiltonian Method for Computation of Vibrational Properties of Challenging Molecules
  • Applications of Solvatochromic Dye sensors Utilizing Room Temperature Ionic Liquid Doped Polymers

Results of these projects will be presented at the annual PORTAL Symposium early in the Fall 2021 term.
