Good morning Griffon families,
Greetings from the Dean of Students Office! The Dean of Students Office (located in Blum Union 228) works to support the health, safety, and success for all our Missouri Western State University students.
As we move into preparing for the spring 2022 semester, there are several great opportunities and resources available to support your student and assist them as they maximize their student experience.
- The Career Development Center continues to support the career development and readiness of our Missouri Western students. Several events are planned for this semester including, but not limited to, career fairs, networking experiences, and more. Encourage your student to visit the Career Events page to take advantage of these opportunities to support them in their career journey!
- The Center for Diversity & Inclusion will kick off the spring 2022 semester with various events to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day during the week of January 17-21. Events will include the MLK Drum Major for Justice Awards Banquet, a screening of the movie “Selma,” and the MLK Day of Service with the Center for Service.
- The Center for Student Involvement will be launching Breakers at MWSU, a new selective volunteer-based group. This spring, Breakers at MWSU will be traveling to Starkville, Mississippi to assist in building houses with Habitat for Humanity of Starkville. Housing, meals, and transportation will be provided for each student. Encourage your student to reach out to Josh Clary, Director of Student Involvement, to receive the application to be a part of Breakers at MWSU.
- The Counseling Center continues to provide services to support the mental health and wellbeing of our Missouri Western students, offering both in-person and telemental health appointments. The Counseling Center has started offering appointment reminders via e-mail and text message this semester to remind students of their upcoming appointments.
- The Department of Housing & Residence Life is looking forward to welcoming your student back to the residence halls as their home-away-from-home for the Spring 2022 semester. Move-in is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15 and Sunday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day.
If there is ever anything that I can do to support you or your student, please do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Students Office.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brett L. Bruner
