Dear Griffon Family Members,

The start of the fall semester is always exciting and is truly my favorite time of the year. Even under the cloud of COVID-19, I am thrilled to see students back on campus. Each year, we welcome a new class of Freshman and assign them one of our six core values. Please help me welcome our Class of Quality and their family members to the Griffon Family!

I am also excited to announce that Dr. Brett Bruner will join the Griffon Family as our new Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students. Dr. Bruner comes to us from Arkansas Tech University and has a wealth of experience in working with students. Please help me welcome him to our family.

If your student reaches out to you about struggling in classes, here is some great information to keep and share with your student: The Center for Academic Support provides free tutoring and is an excellent resource. Students can set up appointments by visiting missouriwestern.edu/cas and clicking on TutorTrac or they are welcome to call the CAS at (816) 271-4524. The peer tutors work both in person at the CAS, Hearnes 213, or online via Zoom. In-person tutoring begins the second week of classes and is available from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays. Online tutoring is available according to the tutor’s availability daily 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. If there is not a tutor listed for a course you need assistance with, fill out the Content Tutor Request, and we will work to hire one.

Also, your student can add or drop classes online through their GoldLink account until 4:30 p.m. on Friday Sept. 3.

If your student is looking for a part-time job on campus, the Career Development Center is hosting a part-time job fair on September 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The fair will be held in Blum 219-19. If you have questions, please contact the Career Development Center at (816) 271-4292.

Finally, mark your calendar for Oct. 16, and make plans to join us for Homecoming and Family Weekend. Watch for more details in the coming weeks!

Happy Semester,

Dr. Melissa Mace

Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
