Maximize your Success
Missouri Western wants its students to succeed, so we encourage future Griffons to prepare themselves academically for university-level classes. Experience has shown that students who have completed the following high school programs are more likely to succeed in college. Listed below are the high school courses highly recommended for college-bound students:
High School Core Classes | Number of Units |
---|---|
English/Language Arts* | 4 |
Mathematics (including Algebra I, II and Geometry)** | 4 |
Science (including at least one lab science) | 3 |
Social Sciences | 3 |
Visual/Performing Arts | 1 |
Electives*** | 3 |
*English/Language Arts: One class may be speech or debate; two units must emphasize composition or writing.
**Mathematics: At least one mathematics course should be taken each year. It is particularly important that students take a mathematics course in grade 12.
***Electives: Electives must be selected from foreign language and combinations of the above courses. Two units of foreign language are strongly recommended.
